UK scientists are working closely together to identify and develop new tools to help advance scientific efforts, particularly those applicable to research into the causes, prevention, diagnosis, and methods of treatment of cancer.

Dotmatics (Bishops Stortford, UK) has licensed its enterprise query, reporting, registration, and data management tools to The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR; London, UK). The solution will primarily be used in the Cancer Research UK Center for Cancer Therapeutics to query, browse, analyze, and share chemical, biologic, and drug metabolism information across research programs and project teams.

Stephen Gallagher, chief executive officer of Dotmatics, said, "We began working with the ICR last year when it chose Dotmatics above other providers for research tools in the Cancer Research UK Center for Cancer Therapeutics. We are immensely proud to be working with such a prestigious organization and look forward to a close and fruitful relationship with the ICR and its partners.”

Prof. Julian Blagg, head of medicinal chemistry at the Center for Cancer Therapeutics said, "Dotmatics was chosen as our preferred partner to meet our chemoinformatics needs; the cost effectiveness and flexibility of the Dotmatics solution are particularly important to us. The Dotmatics team have been very helpful in the implementation of the platform across our center and we look forward to working with Dotmatics to develop and integrate new chemoinformatics tools to assist our cancer drug discovery work.”

By enabling discovery organizations to share and use their research information more efficiently, the goals are to facilitate the generation of strategic knowledge, making the right information available to the right person, and to boost customers' productivity by maximizing their information and knowledge awareness across the spectrum of their discovery activities.

Product features include (1) Browser, a web-based tool for querying, browsing, and visualizing biologic databases and any chemical database. (2) Vortex, a visualization and analytics platform for scientific and nonscientific data. (3) Gateway, a securely enables research teams to share information internally and with external partners. (4) Pinpoint, a powerful Oracle chemical cartridge for querying and integrating chemical databases. Pinpoint represents indexing and search performance at a cost-effective price. (5) Register, a flexible and scalable chemical registration system. (6) Nucleus, a map and import biologic and nonbiologic data files into an Oracle database. (7) Studies, a new standard in screening data management.

The ICR is Europe's leading cancer research center and works closely with partner the Royal Marsden NHS (National Health Service) Foundation Trust to ensure patients immediately benefit from new research. Together, the two organizations form the largest comprehensive cancer center in Europe.
