A new online automated-configuration application enables biotech and other life science researchers to design customized analytical platforms centered on a high-speed microplate mover.

The Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. (Milford, MA, USA) , iAutomate application is a self-serve, free-to-use tool that allows the user to quickly and easily build or modify a system centered around the Thermo Scientific Orbitor RS plate mover.

The Orbitor RS is a high-speed microplate mover offering proven, reliable performance with completely flexible plate handling. Extensive vertical reach allows multiple stacked or high-density instruments to be loaded in a small footprint, and a bidirectional telescoping arm provides superior reach, improved user safety, and unlimited base rotations within a 360 degrees workspace. The instrument accommodates any plate format, from shallow to deep well, in addition to tip boxes and lids, tubes, or racks. This flexibility is further supported by random or sequential plate access and the ability to mix modes of storage as assay requirements change. Laboratory safety is maximized, as the robotic arm is able to pass through the base and remain inside the rotating base while turning.

The iAutomate application, which can be accessed online (Please see Related Links below), enables the complete integration of the Orbitor mover into a platform with any of more than 100 different instruments and service parts. The image can be visualized in two or three dimensions, where a scale model can be inspected in detail from any angle.
